This makes sure that there are no delays or even worse refused or returned packages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Harmonized System (HS) Codes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Harmonized System (HS) Codes are important because customs uses this as a reference to identify the goods in your package. The Harmonized System is a standardized numerical method of classifying traded products for customs processing. This allows shipments to move smoothly through the network and help decrease the risk of fraud and security threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of March 1, 2023, all shipments to EU member nations will require accurate HS coding.<br>While HS codes are not mandatory for all international shipments we encourage and recommend adding an HS code.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently HS codes are only mandatory for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Overseas military addresses (APO\/DPO\/FPO) and other U.S. territories (e.g. Guam, Puerto Rico, etc.) and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>USPS International postage<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Need to find an HS Code &gt;&gt; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadapost-postescanada.ca\/information\/app\/wtz\/business\/findHsCode?execution=e1s1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Canada Post: Find a Harmonized System Code<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">HS Code Format<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>minimum 6 digits for each item in your shipment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>additional digits depend on destination of the shipment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you import your shipments using the Chit Chats CSV? Additionally, other regions, like Brazil, have similar requirements, where a CPF or CNPJ number is necessary. It is your responsibility to know whether or not your country of destination requires a tax reference number. Here are a few examples:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Import One-Stop Shop (IOSS)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Import One-Stop Shop (IOSS) was created as an optional program to facilitate and simplify the declaration and payment of the value added tax (VAT) for goods sold from a distance by sellers from either the European Union (EU) or from a non- EU country or territory. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Value Added Tax Identification Number (VAT)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A Value Added Tax Identification Number or VAT Identification Number (VATIN) is an identifier used in many countries for value added tax purposes. Each country has a slightly different format for their VAT number system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">VAT on E-Commerce (VOEC)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The VAT system for Norway. Similarly to the IOSS, it is used to declare the payment of the value added tax for goods sold from outside of Norway.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have an IOSS, VOEC, or VAT number simply provide this in the customs tax reference number field when creating your shipment. Reference numbers must follow the correct formatting. This ensures that the information is passed onto our partner carriers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Maximum of 20 characters<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cannot content any special characters (i.e. -, !, #)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Not necessary to include the words \u2018IOSS\u2019 &#8216;VOEC&#8217; or \u2018VAT\u2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The IOSS VAT Identification Number contains a total of twelve (12) alphanumeric characters in the following format of IMxxxyyyyyyz (reference <a href=\"https:\/\/faq.usps.com\/s\/article\/Import-One-Stop-Shop-IOSS#IOSS_VAT_Identification_Number\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">USPS IOSS FAQ<\/a>). On the other hand, VOEC numbers are 7 digit reference numbers.
